The ATO has advised that it's not accepting online lodgements of payment summaries until 26 June from employers who:
- Are exempt from fringe benefit tax under section 57A of the FBTAA 1986, or
- Have employed working holiday-makers
Fringe Benefit Tax Exemption
If you're an employer who is exempt from fringe benefit tax under section 57A of the FBTAA 1986, then flag this in Xero in the payment summaries section under organisation details. This allows you to enter an exempt and non-exempt fringe benefits amount for employees that it applies to.
If you've got employees set up as working holiday makers (i.e. their residency status is set to 'Working Holiday Maker' in the Taxes tab), their payment summary will show 'H' as their income status type. Other employees will display an 'S' when their payment summaries are generated. This change will apply to any new payment summaries published from the 2017 financial year onwards.
If you've already made your Lodgement through Xero
Don't worry. If you fall into either of these categories, simply re-submit your lodgement using Xero after 26 June and it will be accepted by the ATO.
