Newsletter and Update July 2006
Greetings to all
Well it has been a tremendous ride so far in the 4 months life of the ICB in Australia. Since launching on 1st March 2006, embarking on 2 trips around all states in Australia launching and then presenting State of the bookkeeping industry and the concepts of ICB to over 3000 people, we have been just a little busy. Content of presentation available at http://www.icb.org.au/members_area/latest_news/story70.htm
Thank you to the immense support expressed during and following the presentations.
The ICB admissions process has received 217 applications for membership (admitted 134 members to date with another 83 in process) at the time of writing. The more of us involved the more we can achieve.
INSURANCE
ICB is pleased to announce the finalisation of a Professional Indemnity Insurance scheme that is designed and priced to appeal to bookkeepers who are members of the ICB. (ICB definition of bookkeepers: All persons commencing with data entry through processors, accounts clerks, reviewers, payroll administrators and troubleshooting consultants.)
Willis Insurance Australia has created a PI insurance package for association members with premiums which I believe are attractive and applicable.
Where a bookkeeper has fee income up to $120,000pa; indicative premiums of $528 (GST Incl.) + stamp duty for cover of $250,000 per claim through to $1089 for $2m cover. Premium levels exist can be advised for higher income levels. I am seeking to provide a guide document as to what level of cover you should consider when assessing your PI cover).
NEW LAWS - BAS Service Provider
As of today PLEASE NOTE: There is NOTHING final about who or what or what is required of a person to be a BAS Service Provider.
ICB will advise members as soon as there are developments. Anybody stating that they know what the requirements are and that they are final is wrong!
*** IT WILL NOT BECOME COMPULSORY FOR ALL BOOKKEEPERS TO UNDERTAKE FORMAL EDUCATION ***
Unfortunately there is misinformation around including what will be required. ICB does expect that the concept of the BAS Service Provider will require an education standard, however ICB remains of the opinion that not all bookkeepers need to become BAS Service Providers. ICB believes that BAS work can and should continue to be completed by bookkeepers that are guided by/ supervised by registered tax agents or similar.
NEW EDUCATION Certificate IV rumours
The new Cert IV is not final at this time. See articles and information on our website at http://www.icb.org.au/members_area/latest_news/story73.htm which includes comment from IBSA the government agency which creates the qualification.
RESOURCES
ICB has commenced its provision of resources through the new resources section. Keep watching this space for more useful items to assist bookkeepers be their best.
YELLOW PAGES Advertising
ICB has contracted for a prominent display in the yellow pages new editions. The Find a Bookkeeper service under the ICB Banner will have national coverage through the published phone books as well as internet. All members within the geographic region will receive notification of bookkeeper work logged through this service.
OUR PURPOSE

Matthew Addison
