The new Cert IV - The fact from IBSA as of 27 June 2006
Facts from IBSA the body responsible for development of the new certificate:
A Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) has been completed and will be submitted to DEST for evaluation prior to forwarding to the NQC for endorsement. Strong industry support for the introduction of this qualification suggests that it will have good take-up and could help ease the pressure on accountants. For further information contact Joan Holschier joan@ibsa.org.au
(Following this presentation by IBSA on the process and status of the implementation of a Certificate IV Bookkeeping course, the information provided in our release of June 6 2006 confirms our interpretation as correct. Further updates will be posted as they are received).

ICB comment:
The new Cert IV as proposed is still going through the process.
It is not final and its status in relation to the new concept of the BAS Service Provider is unknown.
ICB is totally supportive of the development of this level of education that will suit some bookkeepers. ICB is not an Education provider! We will work with approved RTO?s (Registered Training Organisations) directing bookkeepers to relevant courses and accrediting this education as a component of the pathway to entry to membership of the ICB.
ICB believes that while the new Cert IV is a great step forward for the recognition of an education level for some bookkeepers, we do not believe that the majority of bookkeepers need to move towards this formal extensive education.
The education requirements for the new concept fo 'BAS Service Provider' remains unknown.
