New law WILL NOT start before February 2008 at earliest…stated by Treasury

Despite assertions by other organisations who are seeking to scare you into their membership immediately, the ICB have had it specifically confirmed (on Friday 1st June) by the Treasury department, that if the new law is to proceed that it will NOT be brought into effect before February 2008 at the earliest.

ICB believe that this date may also be extended and other unconfirmed information indicates it may be as late as February 2009.

Various other comments being made in the public forum which suggest you need to act immediately and you will definitely need to be registered with them as the only legal solution need to be taken with a grain of salt.

ICB will provide you pathways of being a professional:

If that means for you to be a professional registered BAS Service Provider under the new law, we will be able to provide the pathway to that accreditation.

If it means for you to be a professional bookkeeper (not a registered BAS Service Provider), we will provide pathways that enable you to do that legally, even where your bookkeeping gets involved in providing information that ends up on the BAS.

For detailed information refer to our explanation paper and also consider attending our 2 hour BSP Information Session
