Membership by Examination
This is the Institute's preferred route into membership. The exams cover manual bookkeeping as well as general bookkeeping knowledge and tests your ability to carry out the work of a bookkeeper.
Entrance to Membership by examination, permits you to sit the ICB Bookkeeping Levels II, Level II and Level III online exams. Successful completion of all three levels permits entry as an Associate member of the Institute. Each exam consists of 20 multiple-choice questions and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete each one. The exams are totally online, after we receive your application and payment, an invitation is emailed to your email address with logon details and your password. You will have fourteen days to complete all three exams, if you foresee that you may have problems completing them in this time, please let us know and we will make alternative arrangements. Upon successful completion of the online exams, you will be awarded with the Certificate of Bookkeeping Level I, Level II and Level III.
If you are intending to apply for full Member status, this may be granted to bookkeepers who are able to demonstrate 2 years of appropriate bookkeeping experience. You will need to supply us with suitable reference (accountant, long term client, employer or colleague) who can verify your experience as a bookkeeper, (you can download a copy by clicking here).
