The Bookkeeping Institute of Australia developed the first ever training course for the Certificate IV Bookkeeping qualification and was the first training institute in Australia to deliver the qualification in October 2007. This is the unit required by the Tax Practitioners Board as a "Course in basic GST/BAS taxation principles that is approved by the Board" if you do not hold a FNS40207 Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) and wish to register as a BAS Agent. Section 9 of the latest Exposure Draft reads "the board, in respect to applications for registration made after 1 October, 2010, will not approve that course where the assessment of the course has been effected solely through recognition of prior learning (RPL) without some form of independent formal assessment testing having been conducted." BIA does not conduct this course by RPL and it is fully assessed. All ICB members and student members receive an additional 15% discount.

This 7 day non-accredited course has been designed to introduce the theory and practice of basic accounting and bookkeeping as well as a good understanding of MYOB.
