What is the vision of the New World

What is the vision of the New World?

The October 2009 dream of the BAS Agent & Bookkeeper world to come.

Following the appointment of a proactive and positive board, we will have a world that:

¦.has a common sense transitional period

Over a two year period bookkeepers may transition into registration as a BAS Agent.  That may mean for 2 years, as long as that bookkeeper remains legal according to the world before the new law, that they can continue providing BAS Services.  You won’t be a registered BAS Agent but still allowed to trade.  To access this provision you must advise the new board in writing within 6 months.

¦.allows competent and experienced bookkeepers to register immediately

Competent and experienced bookkeepers should be able to obtain their first registration on the basis of being an experienced and competent bookkeeper.  They will receive full registration as BAS Agents with a BAS Agent number.

¦.progressively ensures formal education standards have been achieved

Either through study or recognition of prior learning or recognition of current competence a person will need to achieve education qualifications to the standard of Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping) or (Accounting).  Hopefully, progressively these courses will improve their education of BAS Service areas and a graduating student from these courses will truly have the skills to be considered a competent and professional Bookkeeper and BAS Agent.  Within 3 years Cert IV qualification will be needed to retain or become a BAS Agent.

¦.Professionals work together for the best interests of the client

Accountants provide information and guidance to their business clients, clients and bookkeepers provide quality information to the accountant.

¦.clients understand what they are receiving from who

Also following the appointment of a proactive and positive board, I dream of a board that will:

¦..seek to revitalise the world and life of tax agents so that the average age is below 60 and the number of tax agents is increasing

¦..assist tax agents to be able to provide tax services in an efficient and effective way to better enable the total administration of the tax system

¦..enable the progressive improvement in the industry/profession of BAS Agents so that registration as a BAS Agent is sought after and also of value.
