A person who is looking to get started in the profession and commencing studies would subscribe to the student membership. Student members receive access to ICB support, resources and network meetings.
Student members must be studying a relevant course through a Recognised Training Provider.
Student membership is valid for 12 month wiht an additional 12 month renewal permitted.

Affiliate Member

A person with no actual bookkeeping experience but has undertaken a Cert III course in bookkeeping or similar is eligible for this level (awarded within the last two years). Successful completion of the Level 1 ICB Entrance assessment would also qualify for admission as an Affiliate.

ICB Certificate of Bookkeeping Level I & II |
| Associate Member "AICB" |
A person with at least one years proven experience in actual bookkeeping work together with proven competencies (by ICB assessment level 1 & 2 or references in ICB format from two qualified accountants) or Cert IV course in bookkeeping or similar (awarded within the last two years) along with evidence of two years experience actual bookkeeping work, would qualify for admission as an Associate Member.

A person with at least two years proven experience in actual bookkeeping work together with proven competencies (by ICB assessment level 1, 2, & 3 or references in ICB format from two qualified accountants) or Cert IV course in bookkeeping or similar (awarded within the last two years) along with evidence of two years experience actual bookkeeping work, would qualify for admission as a Member.

Fellow "FICB"
|
Fellows of ICB represent an ICB Member who has:
- Provided significant contribution into ICB and the membership over a period of time
- Contributions to resources and support
- Network facilitation
- Bookkeepers helping Bookkeepers
- Representing ICB
- Bookkeeper education
- Considered and approved by the admissions board

Each membership level of the Institute indicates a level of competency of the bookkeeper. As the bookkeepers advances their knowledge and experience, they may upgrade their membership level from Affiliate -> Associate -> Member.
Membership Level Upgrade
Once you have been obtained a minimum of 12 months relevant working experience, you may apply for to upgrade your level of membership. You will receive a new membership certificate and membership card if your request is successful. To apply for an upgrade of membership please write to us, enclosing the names and addresses of two referees who will support your application, you will be required pay a one off upgrade fee of $75.00.
The Institute is about providing certainty for businesses, for accountants, for any other person involved with bookkeepers. The level of knowledge and competence of the bookkeepers is indicated by their level of membership the bookkeepers knows what is expected of then, and the business and their accountants know what each bookkeepers is able to competently perform.
The ICB will assess the competence of a bookkeeper, prior to admitting them to a level of membership, by ICB examination or by one of the following methods of exemption:
Membership by ICB online assessment
ICB online assessment confirms the competence of the bookkeepers. The ICB will issue an ICB qualification certificate (as described above) indicating their level of knowledge and competence. Therefore, the assessment level will indicate the appropriate level of membership.
Membership by relevant qualifications
ICB will recognise qualifications awarded by other approved examination boards and admit bookkeepers to the appropriate level of membership based on those qualifications. All qualifications used for exemption purposes must have been awarded within the last two years.
Membership by work experience
ICB will also recognise experience that bookkeepers have gained by performing bookkeeping work. A bookkeeper may gain entry to the level of membership appropriate, by supplying contact details of two accountants who are members of one of the following bodies, ICAA, ASCPA, TIA, ATMA, CIMA , NIA or ICB (Fellow), to attest their level of knowledge and competence.
